Ignazio Magnani, a space enthusiast, routinely provides ISS fly-over timings for different countries on his Twitter account. As per the recent tweet, ISS would be pass over Male’ at 0645pm today and will be visible to the naked eye depending on weather and cloud cover.
Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts isolated showers in the central and northern areas of Maldives today. While weather condition is worse in the south, with a chance of heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Though the chances of spotting the ISS are slim today, it is likely to occur again soon. The ISS orbits at 408km above the ground at a speed of 27,600 kmph, completing one orbit around Earth every 90 minutes. NASA on their spot station website explains that the sightings can range from once a month to several a week, provided it has to be dark at your location while the space station is passing overhead.
Famous for being the most expensive object ever built, the manned space station cost USD 160 million to launch and has been in orbit since 20 November 1998. As the space station flies overhead this evening, it will house a total of seven multinational astronauts, including one female – representing the United States of America, Russia, France, and Japan.
ISS was last spotted over the Maldives on 10th June 2021 at 1923hrs, with good visibility in Male’.
